LONDON—The Legatum Institute, an international think tank and educational charity based in London, today announced the appointment of Jane Siebels to its board of trustees.
Ms Siebels recently stepped down from the boards of the John Templeton Foundation, where she worked for more than ten years. She was Chairman and CEO of Green Cay Asset Management, a successful hedge fund management firm that was sold in 2014. From 1990 -1996, Ms Siebels was Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Templeton, Galbraith & Hansberger where she managed in excess of US $3 billion for corporate and public pension plans, foundations, private investment funds and high-net-worth individuals. Earlier, Ms Siebels was Head of European Institutional Equity Management at UBS in Zurich where she managed US $6.5 billion and worked with Dr. William Sharpe, the Nobel Prize Winner. She is also CEO of Siebels Asset Management Research, the founder of Your Homer, and a co-Founder of iGivingWorld.com—an invite-only social network for philanthropists and foundations.
Ms Siebels has collaborated across a number of Legatum initiatives over the years and feels a deep resonance with many aspects of its mission and programme.
The Legatum Institute was founded in January 2009 with a mission to promote prosperity through programmes that revitalise capitalism, strengthen representative governance and identify the values that promote human flourishing. The think tank is best known for its annual Legatum Prosperity Index™, which compares the prosperity of 142 countries using eight indicators including economic growth as well as a number of social and wellbeing factors.
The Institute has recently made a number of significant hires including Tim Montgomerie, a columnist at The Times, who is leading the ‘Vision of Capitalism’ programme. Other senior members of the team include Anne Applebaum, Director of the Legatum Institute’s ‘Transitions Forum’ programme, Pulitzer Prize-winner and Washington Post columnist; Cristina Odone, journalist, writer and author; and Hywel Williams, historian and author.
Alan McCormick, Chairman of the Legatum Institute Foundation, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Jane to the board. She brings a wealth of valuable experience honed through three decades as an investor and entrepreneur. She has also been a vociferous champion for liberty around the world, experience from which the Legatum Institute will benefit. We appreciate her willingness to serve on the board and look forward to benefiting from her judgement and counsel.”
Sian Hansen, Executive Director of the Legatum Institute Foundation, said:
“Jane Siebels is joining us at an exciting moment in our think tank’s development. We feel certain that she will complement our team for further success.”
