HOW WE ARE FUNDED

The London-based Institute is housed in 11 Charles Street. The building and its core staff are provided by the generosity of our founders through the Legatum Foundation. Legatum as a firm was established with the express purpose of investing in philanthropic ventures and exploring and promoting transformational ideas.

The Legatum Institute is one of a number of world-class organisations supported by the Legatum Foundation, which include:

  • The Freedom Fund which tackles the problems of modern slavery, and raises funding to assist, advise and lobby Governments to do more to free the 46 million slaves world-wide. With an expert team and global perspective, they identify and invest in frontline efforts to end slavery in the countries it is most prevalent.
  • The End Fund which aims to control and eliminate the most prevalent neglected diseases among the world's poorest and most vulnerable people by 2020. It has treated 50 million people in the developing world for parasitic worm infection and cured conditions that are simple in treatment but devastating if untreated.
  • The Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship at MIT which is a community hub for those who seek to accelerate social and economic progress through innovation-driven entrepreneurship, or IDE. The Center was founded in order to demonstrate the power of entrepreneurship to catalyse transformation in society and to improve global wellbeing especially in emerging markets
  • The Speed School Fund aims to restore hope and opportunity for millions who are out of school. Predominantly working in the developing world, Speed School is an accelerated learning programme that compresses three years of curriculum into 10 months, enabling graduates to acquire the skills needed to re-enter formal education.

The Legatum Institute provides the thought leadership for policies that can transform lives for individuals, communities and nations on their journey from poverty to prosperity and we remain grateful for the support we have from the Legatum Foundation to make this possible.

The Legatum Institute is not a funding body and does not make any of its facilities available to third parties for commercial gain, in line with charitable rules.

SUPPORT THE LEGATUM INSTITUTE

As a charity we have an ever growing list of donors from individuals, Trusts and Foundations, to corporates. Our donors offer us either unrestricted funding for our research programmes or donate for specific research to be done.

Thanks to the generosity of the Legatum Foundation providing the platform for the Institute it is possible to say to our donor base that 100% of their donation goes into research work and none on logistics and administration. You can find out more about supporting our work here.
