"On [BBC] Question Time last week the Shadow Education Secretary sneered at my mention of the nuns who taught me: 'Nuns?' he spat. "I know about your religious schooling and there's a difference between a state education system having qualified teachers in the classroom."

"I found the statement deeply offensive. Nuns have educated generations of children, nurturing their talents and the universal values—tolerance, patience, determination, honesty and humility—that the Coalition Government, at least, seeks to promote."
