The third Legatum Prosperity Symposium brought together world renowned academics, policy makers, and experts, to consider a diverse set of topics and themes that emerged from the 2010 Prosperity Index. Issues discussed included the logic and longevity of the Nordic Model; the relationship between Entrepreneurship and Gender in the Index; the possible Demographic Determinants of prosperity and their trajectories; the implications of the Arab Spring on the Future of Prosperity in the Middle East; and the impact of Wellbeing on GDP per Capita. Speakers included New York Times best-selling author Amity Shlaes, Harvard professor Robert Putnam, and the Institute’s Pulitzer Prize winning author and Director of Political Studies, Anne Applebaum.

The Legatum Institute's second annual Prosperity Symposium brought together leading scholars in an effort to understand and advance the best ideas on holistic prosperity in a time of economic turmoil and uncertainty. This year's featured speakers included Paul Kennedy, Paul Collier, Jean Bethke Elshtain, Walter Russell Mead, Robert Putnam, Luigi Zingales, and others.

The Institute convened the first annual Legatum Prosperity Symposium on the June 20th-22nd 2008 at the Brocket Hall Estate in the United Kingdom. A collection of renowned scholars from a range of fields came together to explore the various dimensions of a holistic understanding of prosperity, what it means and how it is realised. By design, the symposium took an inter-disciplinary approach, as economics, political science, sociology, history, and other disciplines can all bring unique methodological insights to prosperity's many facets. Scholars presented original research on wide-ranging subjects including imperial history, religion and social capital, taxation, democratic governance, entrepreneurship, self-determination and life satisfaction, foreign assistance, and national security.
